The Beekman
HYATT LOYALTY HIGHLIGHTS
Globalists receive free breakfast at Temple Court.
Suite Upgrade Awards (SUAs) are accepted for the One Bedroom Suite. Multiple times I have been further upgraded to the premium suite: the One Bedroom Corner Suite.
No welcome note, but Globalist status was recognized upon check in.
HOTEL BRAND OVERVIEW
The Beekman is a Thompson Hotel, one of my favorite Hyatt brands. It has an elegant, old fashioned vibe. As with many other Thompsons, the aesthetic has darker tones with pops of color incorporated.
The building itself was developed in the 1800s. Vintage furniture decorates the common areas and rooms, which feels very fitting.
BOOKING
This is a Hyatt category 6 (out of 8), meaning a stay here requires 25,000 Hyatt points per night at the standard rate. Cash rates often range $400 to $600 per night.
I opted to book a standard room with points, then applied a suite upgrade award (SUA).
LOCATION
The Beekman is in Lower Manhattan. While many first-time NYC tourists prefer to stay in Midtown, I would recommend returning visitors to check out other areas of the city. Similar to Midtown, the location of The Beekman is great for subway access. In fact, you can go between Times Square and The Beekman in 20 minutes because they are located on express stops.
Within walking distance of The Beekman are many great sights and restaurants. You can get to Wall Street, the Charging Bull sculpture, Brooklyn Bridge, the 9/11 Memorial, and many other places all within a 15 minute or less walk.
CHECK IN
Check in is at 3:00pm. We arrived later in the evening and our room was ready.
While I had booked the One Bedroom Suite, I was upgraded further to the One Bedroom Corner Suite. As a result, my room was 600 square feet instead of 475.
ROOM
Right when I walked in, I fell in love with the One Bedroom Corner Suite. Like the rest of the hotel, the aesthetic is elegant and made me feel like I was transported back in time. I felt like I should be sipping an old fashioned and wearing a smoking jacket.
AMENITIES
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available onsite. Temple Court and The Bar Room are popular dining and cocktail destinations in NYC, beyond guests of The Beekman. Complementary breakfast in Temple Court is in the elegant Temple Court dining room.
I highly recommend you grab a drink in the evening. Not only are the cocktails excellent, but the ambiance is one of the best in the city.
SERVICE
Staff at The Beekman are highly attentive. Although the hotel doesn’t comes across as having a primary focus on family visitors, when my sister and her baby entered the hotel, one of the staff members handed her son a stuffed animal.
NEARBY ACTIVITIES
NYC has an endless list of activities, nearly all of which are easily accessible from The Beekman either by walking or hopping on the subway.
Within walking distance, you can tour Trinity Church, spend a few hours at the 9/11 Museum, shop at the Oculus, or hop on a ferry to the Statue of Liberty.
There are many excellent restaurants and cocktail bars nearby, besides those within the hotel. If you’re looking for a view of the city, Overstory is about a 10 minute walk away. They accept walk-ins if you don’t mind standing.
SUMMARY
I recommend The Beekman if you’re looking for a luxury hotel experience in NYC. This hotel is no cookie-cutter property, with its beautiful design and aesthetic. Given that cash prices can run high, it’s a great opportunity to redeem Hyatt points. Similarly, given that the standard room is relatively small, I would recommend redeeming a Suite Upgrade Award if you can. There is no surprise why this is one of the top hotels in NYC, and a suite just makes that experience all the greater.
