HOTEL BRAND OVERVIEW
Hotel du Louvre is part of Hyatt’s Unbound collection, which includes boutique luxury hotels such as this one.
The property originally opened in the 1880s and has a whimsical feeling, with lighter colors brightened by sunlight. We say mostly couples and families staying here.
BOOKING
This is a Hyatt category 7 (out of 8), meaning a stay here requires 30,000 Hyatt points per night at the standard rate. During the time of my stay, this was still a category 6, so I opted to use points, as the cash rate would have been about $600 per night.
LOCATION
The hotel is wonderfully situated for tourists, as it’s an easy walk to the Louvre and Opera Garnier. You can take the Metro to see other parts of Paris through the Palais Royal Metro Station.
An abundance of great restaurants and cafes can be found nearby, including the popular Angelina on Rue de Rivoli.
CHECK IN
We arrived at the hotel after a few nights at Park Hyatt Paris, which is about a 5 minute drive away. One difference we noticed immediately was that there wasn’t a valet at the front of the Hotel du Louvre to help with bags, whereas our bags were whisked away at Park Hyatt. So we lugged our four bags up the stairs and made our way to the front desk.
The lobby at Hotel du Louvre is lovely, and was dressed up for the holidays. We checked in, and were notified that our room was ready. Our Globalist status was recognized and the complimentary breakfast explained. We had booked a Queen View and were upgraded to a slightly larger King Bed View Deluxe. No suite upgrade.
As we made our way to the room, a hotel porter lugged all four of our bags to the room, which was very impressive for one person!
ROOM
Upon entering the room, we were happy to find a bottle of wine and dessert. This was a nice welcome gift, especially as we were celebrating a special occasion!
The room was small (270 square feet), but had a nice view of the street below. You could see Le Nemours, the cafe where Angelina Jolie sat at the beginning of the movie “The Tourist.” You’re much more likely to get a room with an exterior view at Hotel du Louvre than at Park Hyatt.
The bathroom was a decent size for Paris and had a shower with a tub. While the bedroom was a nice temperature, the bathroom was uncomfortably cold during our visit in early winter.
AMENITIES
Breakfast is served at Bocuse, but we were also given the option of room service for a fee of 15 euro, which we opted to do. While we missed the free and elaborate room service breakfast at Park Hyatt, the food was great here as well. It was nice to sit and eat while enjoying the view from bed.
SERVICE
The service at Hotel du Louvre was great, although nowhere near the level of Park Hyatt. Everyone we interacted with was helpful and friendly.
NEARBY ACTIVITIES
There’s an unlimited number of activities you can do in Paris, from shopping at the luxury designer stores to exploring the history of France.
Take a stroll around the Jardin du Palais Royal and Jardin des Tuileries, both right near the hotel. Steps away is the Seine, which is lovely to walk along.
SUMMARY
Hotel du Louvre is an excellent option for a stay in Paris thanks to its location and beautiful aesthetic. While Park Hyatt is my go-to in the city, I would certainly return here, especially when looking for a room with a view.
